PPC16: The Sketches

in our last post we told you all about the inspiration behind what will eventually be our new design for Spring 2018, and now I’d like to show you our original “sketchwork” because I’d love to get some feedback from YOU!

First– the Exterior

My vision for this bag is to make it highly organized and a bit on the small side since that seems to be the trend of late. It’ll have a pouch-style front pocket with a mag-snapped closure and a back slip pocket. In between these areas will be a 3-sided zippered closure protecting the interior contents.

While I certainly know of individuals who could carry this bag as an everyday bag, you’d have to have a pretty minimalistic lifestyle in order to do so. My thinking instead is that this bag would be ideal for shopping, traveling, going to sporting events or for attending other special events (like quilt shows). The front pocket is sized perfectly for a camera as well as other small items while sunglasses (or reading glasses) can be stowed in the back slip pocket. And here’s the fun part, there’s actually a hidden storage area in BETWEEN the front and back of the purse which is sized perfectly for smart phones. It’ll be a snug, but not too tight fit, so the phone will be secure and it should be really easy to hear it ring.Β  πŸ™‚

And next– here’s a peek at the INSIDE!

On one side of the interior will be the wallet area which will include a slot for paper money, a mesh pocket for coins and a deep slot in back for a passport, a checkbook or foreign currency. On the opposite side is storage for four cards with a deep slot behind them all for other important flat items, like pens, tickets, boarding passes, or tissues.

So stay tuned…

In the next post in this series I’ll show you the 1st prototype for this new design, but in the meantime I would really love to know what you think about this idea and if you don’t see that one feature you really love having in a bag, NOW would be the time to let us know! And remember, we love reading your comments and answering your questions too, so please feel free to leave either or both in the space provided below. **********************************************************************************************

  1. The drawing you show, is that the area that zips closed? May be too small for me, but I can definitely see it for the uses you mention. When I take day long bus trips with a church group, my small over the shoulder bag is handy in tight spaces.

  2. D ring fir keys
    Clear ID pouch

  3. Loop for a pen. More slots for CC’s etc.

    • thanks Arlene, but for right now we’re only planning on 4 slots. This bag is on the small side and most folks probably wont use it on an everyday basis. I’m think more on the lines of a shopping excursion, a quilt show, a sporting event, or traveling when you wont want to (or probably shouldnt) carry your whole arsenal of cards along with you. πŸ™‚ Does that make sense?

  4. Shorter or no-flap. A flap is an extra step to get into the purse. I definitely like the smaller size. But bigger than the hip bag hybrid?

    • Hmmm, I wouldnt say that this bag will be bigger than the HipBag Hybrid. There will be some people for sure that will use this bag as an everyday bag, but for most folks that wont be the case. πŸ™‚ Hope that answer your concern?

  5. This looks wonderful. Do we have to wait until next year?

    • Well… the release date is up in the air right now. I’ll be out of the country for two weeks in October, then I’ll be in Houston at the end of the month for 2 weeks, and then of course there’s those holiday obligations…. so it doesn’t look promising for this year, but I’ll keep everyone posted here. πŸ™‚ (Glad to hear you are interested though!) Thanks so much

  6. Can there be a small gusset at the bottom where the two bags join? It seems like a great spot for a keyless car fob. What about the flap going the full length and have a zip pocket on the back side of it?

    • We’ll see… all of those things add additional bulk to an already “busy” seam area, so I’m not sure at all it would be advisable, but we’ll see! πŸ™‚

  7. Is there any way to put in fabric, etc to foil card readers? Not sure if any of that is on sale for home use. It is available in commercial bags. Just wondering.

    • You can certainly add that if you like! πŸ™‚ I would only add it to the card section though…. not the entire bag.

      • Thanks Kat. Been busy around here and just realized when I found blocking fabric online today that I had asked you a question in bag sketch post. This bag looks like something I need. Saw your newer post on the gorilla bag model and liked it. Will keep waiting for the pattern.

  8. Loop or something to attach keys

  9. Looks like something I could use as my “wallet” in a larger bag. That’s been my habit.
