July 2005
The StudioKat Designs Newsletter ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
HELLO and Welcome!-
OK, here's Volume 1 of the official StudioKat Designs Newsletter. I'll try to make this an entertaining interlude for you, rather than a glorified infomercial for my patterns. Hopefully you'll find a few things about which to laugh, ponder, look up, bookmark, or enjoy over and over again, and in the process you'll also find out about new things happening at StudioKat Designs! This newsletter is a work in progress, and I plan on adding new features and replacing old ones as audience response (that would be you) dictates!
Feline Quote for July-
There has never been a cat Who couldnt calm me down By walking slowly Past my chair Rod McKuen
Quiltshop Spotlight-Stitchin Heaven in both Tyler and Quitman, Texas
Check out Stitchin Heaven on the web at www.stitchinheaven.com. This is a great website that features a really cool virtual tour you can take with of all things, a tourleader named "Scraps the Cat!" I also love the name of the newsletter..... HOT FLASHES. They might be carrying something you just can't live without!
New at StudioKat Designs-
By now I hope you know that I published my 4th pattern in the "Bags w/ Panache" line in June. You can see it at www.studiokatdesigns.com/PolsoPouch.htm It's my answer to the dreaded and terminally hideous "Fanny Pack". Who invented the fanny pack anyway, and have you EVER seen anyone wearing one and look GOOD in it? If so, I definitely would like to have a picture of it for my files! Anyway, I'm excited about this new purse, and I promise you, it will cause you no unsightly lumps when you use it!
A Byte of Chocolate-
---Chocolate math---
Pick the number of times per week that you would like to have chocolate.(I know its more than 1, but let's try to keep it less than 10)
Multiply this number by 2.
Add 5.
Multiply it by 50. (ok, go ahead and get your calculator)
If you've already had your birthday this year, add 1755... if not add 1754.
Subtract the 4-digit year that you were born.
You should be left with a 3-digit number. The first digit is the original number you chose (how many times per week you want chocolate), and the next 2 digits reveal YOUR AGE!
---Ain't Chocolate Great?---
PlayTime-
Check out my new interactive game, HangMan. You will have a decided advantage over anyone you play with, because ALL of the answers have to do with Sewing! So for kicks, keep that little piece of info to yourself, and challenge a non-sewer to a game!!
Love Handbags?-Pursestories.Com
For a truly enjoyable web experience, you just gotta go to www.pursestories.com This is without a doubt, one of my favorites. If you love handbags, you'll love this site. It's chock full of stories, poems and anecdotes about strictly PURSES! How cool is that? You can even become a contributor. Got a talent for writing? Here's a chance to become published on the web!!!
The FabShopHop-www.fabshophop.com
Have you signed up for the FabShopHop yet? Two lucky people are going to win brand new sewing machines, just by taking part in what is basically "internet hide n' seek".There's plenty of other prizes to win as well, so if you aren't ready to start hoppin' tomorrow (July 1), there's still time to signup. Laugh Lines-
"Laugh at yourself first, before anyone else can!" --Elsa Maxwell--
"Catsite" of the Month-InfiniteCat.Com
You've got to see this site to believe it! www.infinitecat.com The first interactive website for your CAT!
"Wanted: Purse Paparazzi "-
As part of a upcoming newsletter feature, I am calling for pictures of outrageous handbags. They can be strange, unconventional, laughable, or just plain rot-gut UGLY! If you spot a likely entry, snap a picture! ( i know tons of you have camera phones now! ) But please, BE DISCREET! It has been documented, (and I am NOT making this up) that the #3 weapon of choice for women, regardless of situational danger, is in fact, her HANDBAG!! Soooo, weigh the risk, or perhaps the size of the handbag owner's bicep, or even the injury-potential if the aformentioned handbag were to be used as a projectile, versus any potential you might have for personal gain, before you click. Better to be forewarned than "fore-armed"! (which is incidently, the #5 weapon of choice)
Send the picture, along with your name and hometown, and any other information you think others might enjoy about the occasion on which you spotted this "handbag", to info@studiokatdesigns.com After the entries are compiled, and we've all had a chance to vote, the winners will receive Studiokat Designs gift certificates. So "snap to it" and send in those pics!
Listen UP!-
You may be perfectly satisfied with the music you are listening to now, and if so just skip on, but if you're like me and just need a fresh "sound" now and then, instead of the repetitious stuff on regular radio, then you might want to give a listen to Jack Johnson . Aside from the fact that he's a surfing nut from California (we won't hold THAT against him), his music is refreshingly new, yet something about it makes me think of the late 60's. I read somewhere that his music was described as "Woodstock meets Earth Day" and that is actually not a bad moniker for him. Anyway, you can get a good "feel" for his sound on his website, and if you're not into him, no problem. Just flip back to whatever your regular station is serving up!
July Trivia-
July is one of my favorite months, and just in case you didn't know, it is also National HotDog month. You are probably even LESS likely to know that it is also National Baked Beans month, which really isn't such a surprise, since they go so good with hotdogs!!! Did you know that on July 1st in 1971, in a decision that was very dear to my heart at the time, Congress ratified the 26th ammendment, which decreased the voting age, nationwide, to 18, which sent me to the voting booth for the first time. Well.... technically, it sent me to the mailbox, because I had to vote absentee ballot, since I was away at college at the time, but going to the mailbox doesn't sound nearly as dramatic as entering a polling booth, with its magical curtain! Here's a fun piece of information, you probably are unaware of. On July 2nd, at noon, 2005 will be exactly half over. 182.5 days down, 182.5 days to go. July is also the birthmonth of Princess Diana, Dan Ackroyd and Liv Tyler, all on July 1, and if your birthday is in July, here's a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY at ya, from StudioKat Designs! I hope your next year is your best year yet! And if your birthday is not in the month of July, then support your neighborhood street vendor. Go out at exactly noon, buy a hotdog and go to a very public place on July 2nd, and while defiantly raising your plate of baked beans high, announce in a loud voice, (and also a straight face, in you can) "Ladies and gentlemen, our President was no crook!"
