December 2005

The StudioKat Designs Newsletter
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

HELLO and Welcome!- It's December and this year, there's a little something extra for me to be celebrating, and that is because... now I am RETIRED!!!! Well, at this point it still kinda feels like I am on vacation, which is great, but i really don't think the "realness" will hit until after the holidays!. I still find myself hurrying through tasks in order to "maximize" my time off and stuff, and then I think, hey wait a minute, Slow DOWN! I can take a break now, enjoy a cool breeze on my porch, play a little fetch with Jeter (Ok, so it's mostly, I throw and then I fetch), or simply daydream (veg-out) for a bit. It's delicious, I LOVE it, I highly recommend it, and that's only after 1 week! So take a break with me, grab a fresh cup of Joe, and see what I've been doing in MY studio!
As always, if you prefer, you can go to www.studiokatdesigns.com/dec05.htm to see the html/color version of the newsletter. Just scroll down to the "Archive" section, and click on Dec 05.

Feline Quote for December-
"Only cat lovers know the luxury of fur-coated musical hot water bottles that never go cold."-Suzanne Miller

New at StudioKat Designs-
I was hoping to announce the release of my new handbag design, The Mezza Luna, with this newsletter, but I lost a good deal of ground in the final push to get myself extricated (I mean retired) from my full time job! The website release is close, and probably will be sometime in mid-December. You can check back then, or I'll notify you of it's availability in the January 06 Newsletter! You can go to www.studiokatdesigns.com/mezzaluna.htm to see some new sample pictures, and soon hopefully, a pattern cover.

They're the most interesting bags I've found in a while! In particular, Ii like the "Woodstock" bag, (just in case you are reading this, Santa!)

Did You Know?-Do the people you work with make you sick?
Seriously, don't you just HATE it when people come to work sick??? Unless you are lucky enough to work from home like me, then you need to avoid the FIVE most germ-ridden places at your office. Can you guess what they are? Take your best guess, then get out your disinfectant wipes and see how you did.

1) Phones
2) Desktop work areas
3) Water Fountain Handles
4) Microwave Door Handles
5) Computer keyboards

If you guessed door knobs and stair railings, don't feel bad, so did I! They were actually in the top TEN!

Laugh Lines-Reflections
Fans of '60's music, my 14-year old daughter and her best friend got front-row tickets to a Peter, Paul & Mary concert. When they returned home, my daughter said, "During the show, we looked back and saw hundreds of little lights swaying to the music. At first we thought people were holding up cigarette lighters. Then we realized that the lights were reflections off all of the eyeglasses in the audience!"

A Fun Place to Surf- http://www.Phoons.com
Have you phooned for anyone lately? Well you may have, and not even known it. Ask someone to take a picture of you while you're in a phoon pose (arms and legs bent in a running position, turning sideways, not looking at the camera or smiling) and send it into this site for posting. Hundreds of people have already done so. Check out the images of people doing the phoon in crowds, in foreign countries, on fountains, at theme parks, in tight fits, at airports, on beaches, in costumes, with animals, and MORE! You'll LOVE it!

Talk to Me-
Many of you have been inquiring about Jeter of late. What he's up to, is he behaving any better?, etc. Well, it just so happens, that I took Sir Jeter (His Spoiledness) to the vet last week for his annual physical and shots. He's a healthy guy, so he hasn't been to the vet since last year at this time. Well he cried the whole way to the vet in his kitty carrier, so he was NOT in a good mood when we arrived, and he puffed up to twice his normal size (and he's a big guy to begin with) at the very SIGHT of the vet, (which the doc found a little humorous). But the laughing and posturing all ceased when the vet did the dreaded fecal exam. Jeter looked at me like I had committed treason, and let out a howl that surely stopped all the clocks in the building. From then on out, as you might have guessed, it was WAR!

Jeter still needed 3 booster shots, but it took 3 more nurses, 2 bathtowels, and a half box of bandaids to accomplish this. In the end, there was blood on everyone, (and none of it was Jeter's), I maintain that the distemper shot was administered to ME, even tho the doc said that was a "Jeter-bite", (no WAY!), and we STILL had the formidable task left, of putting Jeter back into his car carrier. I was mortified!

Doc assured me however, that he had seen one or 2 cats behave worse than Jeter (I hope he wasn't kidding), and that his antics were being painstakingly documented in his chart for the safety of future handlers. So his reputation is ruined, but at least we shouldn't have to go back there until next year! And if we do, you can bet we're going in disguise!

So it occurs to me, I sure could use a few interesting bad kitty behavior stories to make me feel better. If you have good one, send it to me in an email at info@studiokatdesigns.com . Who knows, maybe someday I'll write a book and name you as a contributor? Or maybe I'll just get a good laugh, and that would be GREAT!

Monthly Trivia- Some very interesting things have happened on Dec. 1. For one thing, the game of basketball, my FAVORITE spectator sport, was invented on this day in 1891 by James Naismith. He was a PE teacher in Springfield, MA, and had totally run out of ideas for inside things to do with his students, after 14 straight school days of sub-freezing temperatures and iced-up playgrounds. (Can any of you relate?) So he nailed up peach baskets at opposite ends of the gym, and gave students soccer balls to toss in them, while he went in search of some Valium (Ok, i made that part up), and thus the game was born. I think basketball is best played in black and gold with a big WF (for Wake Forest Univ) on your back. GO DEACS!
And speaking of games, BINGO, the favorite game of Americans over the age of 65, was started in December of 1929, and has since grown into a five-billion-dollar-a-year industry, (make that charitable fundraiser?), and that's just in the state of Florida! OK, I'm making that part up as well, but BINGO really IS big in Florida! How do I know this, you might ask? OK, here's a little quiz for you, that demonstrates my point! (I'll give you 3 tries.. and the first 2 don't count!!)

I have been begging and pleading with my Mom, a self-described Bingo FREAK, to move back to NC from Florida for years. Mom wouldn't even consider moving back here, until she had

a) secured a new doctor,

b) secured suitable one-story housing, or

c) sampled at least 3 BINGO parlors to ascertain the "quality of Life" in this part of NC.

ANSWER???: She won 2 games, they had bigger cash prizes than in Florida, so my folks are living here as of November 3rd!

December 1st is also the birthday of Richard Pryor, one of my favorite actors,(Stir Crazy, Blue Collar) born in Peoria, IL, in 1940. Bette Midler's birthday ("You are the Wind beneath my Wings") is also Dec. 1st, as is Woody Allen, writer and director of Annie Hall, and Manhatten. And if today is also YOUR birthday, then here's a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY from StudioKat Designs, and if today is NOT your birthday, well then, you might want to surf the internet for some great college basketball tickets (I recommend WFU !), or maybe rent an old Richard Pryor video, but not if it's BINGO night at the VFW! Only an IDIOT would do that..... well that's what my Mom says anyway!!

Well, that's it for now, so until next month, remember!
